Muscat: This year’s theme, “Financing Wildlife Conservation: Investing in People and Planet,” underscores the urgent need for financial commitments to safeguard global wildlife and habitats. The event aims to highlight how investing in conservation strengthens ecosystems, ensures clean air and water, supports livelihoods, and mitigates climate change.
Oman’s participation aligns with global efforts to reduce human encroachment on wildlife and secure sustainable financing for conservation projects. The event also explores innovative financial solutions such as green and blue bonds and the multidimensional vulnerability index developed by the United Nations, ensuring that Indigenous peoples and local communities—who play a critical role in wildlife protection—receive equitable financial support.
World Wildlife Day was officially adopted at the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, and March 3 also commemorates the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
