Oman establishes association aims to enhance maritime expertise and industry collaboration

The Omani Maritime Society has officially been established following the issuance of Ministerial Resolution No. 80/2025 by the Ministry of Social Development.

MUSCAT : The decision, signed by Dr. Laila bint Ahmed bin Awadh Al Najar, Minister of Social Development, was issued on February 19, 2025 (20 Sha’ban 1446 AH) and mandates the publication of the association’s bylaws in the Official Gazette.

The Omani Maritime Society will focus on:

Highlighting the importance of the maritime sector in Oman.
Collaborating with government entities involved in maritime affairs.
Providing specialized expertise and advisory support.
Acting as a bridge between stakeholders in the maritime industry.
Supporting professionals in the sector and encouraging youth participation.
Promoting training, professional development, and awareness of maritime opportunities.

The association will be governed by a board of 5 to 12 members, elected for a two-year term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms per member before a required gap.

Funding sources include:

Member subscriptions
Government subsidies
Event revenues and other approved sources
Donations, gifts, and wills (subject to ministerial approval)
