MUSCAT : The whale, which was reported dead since yesterday, has prompted a coordinated response from various authorities including the Wali’s Office, Royal Oman Police, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The Environment Authority stated that it is handling the situation in a methodical and scientific manner to determine the cause of the whale’s death. Due to the challenging terrain of the area, the team has been collecting essential data and samples, with assistance from the Future Seas Company to ensure the process is carried out effectively.

The Arabian Sea humpback whale is classified as rare and endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List. It is one of the 20 whale species residing in Oman’s seas, with previous research supporting this through satellite tracking studies.

Once the investigation is complete, the whale will be buried at an appropriate site. The Environment Authority also expressed gratitude to the participating agencies and the local community for their cooperation in raising awareness about such incidents. The investigation remains ongoing as experts work to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
