MUSCAT : The initiative is a key step in Oman’s environmental conservation efforts, contributing to the protection of biodiversity and the preservation of natural resources, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
Before the release, a detailed survey of plant species and water sources was conducted to ensure a sustainable environment for the gazelles. The animals were first transported from the Arabian Oryx Reserve in Al Wusta to the Wildlife Breeding Center in Mirbat, where they underwent a three-month acclimatization period to adapt to the region’s climate.
Hatem bin Salem Kalshat Al Mahri, Head of the Arabian Gazelle Domestication Team, explained that the gazelles were then carefully transported to Al Hallaniyat Islands via specialized wildlife transport boxes and shipped by the National Ferries Company before being released into the wild.

To ensure the gazelles’ safety, a portion of the herd has been fitted with GPS and satellite tracking devices, allowing conservationists to monitor their movements. Additionally, trap cameras have been installed at strategic locations to study their behavior and ensure their well-being.
