MUSCAT : The ceremony was held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences.

Speaking at the event, His Excellency Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Abri, Undersecretary for Water Resources, highlighted the importance of an integrated flood risk management system, noting that Oman has now completed 200 dams across its governorates, serving purposes ranging from groundwater recharge to flood mitigation. The Wadi Al Jifnain Dam took three years to construct.

According to Eng. Yousef bin Masoud Al Mandhari, Director of the Dams Department, the dam was designed to protect commercial and residential areas in Al Khoud, Al Hail, and Al Mawaleh from potential flooding. It was built using advanced hydrological studies and modern technologies, including plastic concrete, water control systems, and smart monitoring devices to track water levels in real time.

The dam stands 20 meters high and spans 6,400 meters in length, featuring two concrete spillways, four water discharge gates, and a state-of-the-art monitoring system to ensure stability and safety. It boasts a storage capacity of 11.5 million cubic meters of water.

Environmental impact studies were conducted in line with international standards, with results confirming minimal impact on biodiversity. Measures were taken to preserve natural wildlife corridors, ensuring ecological balance in the area.

The RO 45.6 million project, which included both construction and infrastructure development, was completed on schedule under the supervision of specialized consultants to meet high-quality standards.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said unveiled a commemorative plaque, marking the official opening of the dam. The event was attended by His Excellency Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, alongside members of the State Council, senior officials, and distinguished guests.
