Investments in Oman’s services sector reaches RO 2.837 billion in 2024

The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has announced that the volume of investments in Oman's service sectors reached a significant RO 2.837 billion by the end of 2024.

MUSCAT : This announcement was made during the APSR’s annual media meeting, held under the patronage of by His Excellency Eng. Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.

Speaking at the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Mansour bin Talib Al Hinai, Chairman of the APSR, pointed out that the contribution of the electricity and water sectors to the GDP increased from 2.2 percent in 2020 to 2.5 percent in 2024.

While the volume of investments in the regulated sectors – from 2020 to 2024 – amounted to about RO 2.837 billion, contribution from the natural gas transmission sector amounted to about RO 192 million; investments in the water and sanitation sector amounted to about RO 860 million and the electricity generation sector amounted to RO 450 million.

APSR Chairman also highlighted key projects and future initiatives aimed at supporting Oman’s sustainable development.

Among the future projects mentioned were several major initiatives to improve energy systems, renewable energy integration, and water infrastructure, as well as new regulatory frameworks for energy transfer and sustainability. H.E. Dr. Al Hinai emphasized that these projects, including the Wadi Dayqah Dam water purification and energy storage project, the exploration of geothermal energy, and the development of biofuel energy from waste, are crucial for Oman’s future sustainability.

Key to these efforts is the transition plan to sustainable energy, which includes major projects such as the Ibri 2 solar energy plant, which began operations in 2024 with a capacity of 500 megawatts, and a series of wind energy projects that will start in 2027. These initiatives aim to bolster Oman’s renewable energy capacity, with plans to generate 3,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2030.
