Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism warns against illegal metal detector excavations

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has taken a firm stand against the illegal practice of using metal detectors to search for and excavate archaeological artifacts, a move that violates the Omani Cultural Heritage Law.

Muscat: In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed that these activities breach Article No. (39) of Chapter Four on Surveying and Excavating Antiquities and Article No. (67) of Chapter Six on Controlling Violations and Administrative Penalties of the law, enacted by Royal Decree (35/2019).

The Ministry urged the public to refrain from engaging in such practices, emphasizing that Oman’s rich cultural heritage is protected by strict legal measures. “The measures are being taken to address these illegal activities,” the statement read, underscoring the commitment to preserving Oman’s historical treasures.
