MUSCAT : This places Oman fourth in the Arab world, a substantial improvement from its 70th position in 2023. Oman’s score also increased by 12 points, from 43 in 2023 to 55 in 2024.

The CPI measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide, using data from six global institutions. Oman’s strong performance underscores its commitment to adopting international best practices in governance, particularly in protecting public funds, improving their efficient use, and fostering integrity.

Dr. Hamir bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, spokesman for the State Audit Institution (SAI), praised the Sultanate’s achievement, highlighting the importance of the country’s positioning in the Arab world, where it ranked fourth. He emphasized that this accomplishment contributes to enhancing Oman’s reputation as a favourable environment for business and investment.

Dr. Mahrouqi explained that the progress made in the CPI was due to the efforts of the SAI in collaboration with other relevant institutions. These include the National Competitiveness Office and various governmental bodies focused on improving transparency and accountability.

The Institution has been actively promoting integrity through awareness programs aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the National Plan to Enhance Integrity. Additionally, it continues to provide annual reports to His Majesty and engages with international organizations to improve the country’s standing in global corruption indices.

Transparency International, a non-governmental organization, measures the perceptions of corruption based on data from several global sources. The index provides a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates the highest level of corruption and 100 reflects the lowest perceived corruption. Oman’s advancement in the CPI marks a significant step in its ongoing commitment to good governance and corruption prevention.
