The Sultanate’s history, with its roots extending back thousands of years, is intertwined with intellectual and human contributions from Omanis, strengthening both its strategic geographic position and cultural influence.

Among the notable roads now named after Omani leaders are the Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road linking Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi, and the Sultan Qaboos Road connecting Muscat and Al Batinah. Additional roads named after Sultan Faisal bin Turki, Sultan Taimur bin Faisal, and others further celebrate the Al Busaidi dynasty’s leadership in shaping the nation’s political, economic, and social identity.

Dr. Mahmoud bin Abdullah Al Abri, Secretary of the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, praised this initiative as a way to connect both current and future generations to their country’s profound history. He explained that naming roads after these figures helps reinforce national identity and belonging, while also enhancing community awareness of Oman’s history. Dr. Al Abri stressed that these names are not just landmarks but also symbols of the pivotal roles played by these leaders in Oman’s development, promoting a deeper understanding of the Sultanate’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

Reiterating the same, historian Dr. Badriya bint Mohammed Al Nabhani highlighted that the names of these sultans are a tribute to their enduring contributions to Oman’s unity and strength. By naming roads after them, Oman ensures that future generations remain connected to their historical figures, while also fostering a sense of pride and national cohesion. The naming of roads becomes a powerful tool for preserving the cultural and historical landscape, making it easier for citizens and visitors to learn about the figures who shaped the nation.

Professor Dr. Saif bin Nasser Al Maamari, Head of the Department of Curricula and Teaching at Sultan Qaboos University, emphasised that the royal directives are part of a broader effort to strengthen Omani identity and citizenship. He noted that these names highlight the impact of the Al Busaidi family on Oman’s history, underlining the importance of preserving these historical links through the country’s infrastructure.

Researcher Dr. Bahiya bint Saeed Al Adhoubi also praised the initiative, saying that naming roads after historical Omani figures helps document the country’s history and ties the present to its past. She pointed out that these names serve as more than just markers—they represent the essence of Omani culture and identity, as well as the leadership that guided the nation through significant periods of change.
