MUSCAT : His Excellency told media representatives that one of the four accused has been extradited to Oman from India and is now facing trial.
His Excellency Al Sawai explained that there were four defendants in the case. Initially, Indian authorities reported being unable to locate the suspects, later informing officials that they had died from complications related to COVID-19.
However, only one defendant has been successfully extradited to Oman, and he is now appearing in court.
The accused, Majibullah Mohammad Haneef, was extradited to Oman on January 24, 2024, following a ruling by the Delhi High Court in November 2023, which upheld the Indian government’s decision to transfer him. Haneef is charged with the murder of an Omani family, including three children, in Wilayat Bidiya in July 2019.
His Excellency had previously explained that while there is no formal extradition agreement between Oman and India, the decision to extradite Haneef was made due to the strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
The accused is currently undergoing interrogation.
