Muscat – The explainer aims to provide legal clarity on the matter, drawing on Royal Decree No. 88/2022 and the Labour Law issued under Royal Decree No. 53/2023.

According to the Ministry, if a worker’s weekly rest day falls on an official public holiday, compensation will be provided as specified in Royal Decree 88/2022, which outlines public holidays. This compensation will be implemented according to the decree, as applicable, and without prejudice to any more favourable system for workers that may already be in place within the establishment. This ensures that workers receive the appropriate compensation in such situations.

“If a worker is required to work overtime during weekly rest days or public holidays, they shall be compensated in accordance with the provisions outlined in Article 72 of the Labour Law issued under Royal Decree No. 53/2023,” states the Ministry explainer.
