Oman must invest heavily in expanding its digital infrastructure to ensure every corner of the country is connected. This connectivity will empower remote areas, enabling equal access to digital services and fostering inclusive growth.

E-governance is a cornerstone of a digital society. Oman has already made strides in this area with initiatives like the ‘Invest Easy’ portal and the ‘eVisa’ system. However, the vision for 2040 demands an integrated e-governance platform where citizens can access all government services online—from applying for licenses to paying taxes and accessing healthcare records. Such a system not only enhances efficiency but also promotes transparency and accountability.

Oman’s urban centers must evolve into smart cities that leverage technology to improve living standards. From smart transportation systems that reduce traffic congestion to energy-efficient buildings powered by IoT devices, smart cities are the future. Muscat, Salalah, and other cities can become hubs of innovation, setting examples for sustainable urban development.

Oman can draw lessons from these examples while tailoring solutions to its unique context.

Realising the ‘Digital Oman’ concept requires collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia. Public-private partnerships can accelerate the development and deployment of digital solutions. For instance, tech companies can provide expertise and resources to build digital infrastructure.
