MUSCAT : In continuation of its efforts to regulate the labour market, the Ministry of Labour, represented by the Directorate General of Labour in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, implemented a number of inspection campaigns from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 to create a positive and productive work environment.
The team visited 605 establishments and handled 131 complaints related to violations, 75 of which led to the apprehension of offenders. These efforts resulted in the arrest of 428 expatriate workers who were found to be working illegally in the country. Of these, 361 workers were deported for violating the country’s labour laws.
163 expatriate workers had either surrendered themselves or were handed over by their employers. Efforts were also made to regularize the status of 100 workers whose cards were withheld, and 245 workers were referred from other authorities for further action.
The Joint Inspection Team also managed 25 complaints directly, while 31 complaints were referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation. 25 complaints had to be closed due to the inability to reach the applicants.
