MUSCAT : The newly expanded wastewater treatment plants in Al Khabourah and Suwaiq now boast a combined production capacity of 4,500 cubic meters per day. The Al Khabourah plant contributes 2,500 cubic meters daily, while the Al Suwaiq facility processes 2,000 cubic meters, with provisions for future capacity upgrades to accommodate urban and population growth.

Eng. Hilal bin Masoud Al Sharji, Acting Director of Operations Support at Nama Water Services, highlighted the advanced technologies employed in the plants, ensuring wastewater is treated environmentally friendly. This initiative is expected to strengthen wastewater infrastructure, reduce environmental impacts, and protect groundwater resources. He explained that the regenerated water will be reused for agriculture, green spaces, and industrial purposes, aligning with Oman’s strategic goals.

The treatment process involves multiple purification stages, guaranteeing the water’s suitability for reuse across various sectors. These efforts contribute to environmental sanitation by expanding green spaces and enhancing food security through crop irrigation.

In addition to the completed expansions, Nama Water Services is advancing projects in Al Musannah and Sohar. These include constructing sewage networks, irrigation lines, and connecting thousands of residential and commercial units to the system, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

Eng. Abdullah bin Salem Al Shamsi, Director of Operations and Maintenance in North Al Batinah, affirmed that the treatment plants are designed to efficiently handle daily sewage volumes. The symbolic cost of tanker services, set by authorities, ensures accessibility for all residents.
