MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police on Sunday arrested an Asian national on charges of online fraud after duping individuals into providing their bank details, including one-time passwords (OTPs).
In a statement issued, ROP said the man used to send “suspicious links via SMS to victims’ phones to obtain their data and withdraw funds from their bank accounts.”
“Legal procedures are currently underway. The Royal Oman Police urges everyone to ignore calls and messages from unknown sources and to refrain from sharing the one-time password (OTP) with any untrusted entity,” the statement added.
