Muscat – The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) has announced a new initiative, ‘Duqm Now’, designed to push Oman’s industrial sector towards a clean energy future. The initiative, with The Arabian Stories (TAS) as the official online media partner, will bring together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers to explore opportunities and forge partnerships in the renewable energy space.

From green hydrogen to carbon neutral steel the Special Economic Zone at Duqm is rapidly emerging as Oman’s powerhouse of industrial innovation.

This unique platform, sponsored by Duqm Quarries and Development Bank, and supported by Salam Air, Crowne Plaza Hotel Duqm, Oman Economic Review and Oman FM goes beyond traditional networking to deliver actionable insights and forge the connections that turn ambitious plans into business reality.

 
The first session, Up & Down the Green Stream, takes place 7:30pm Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Duqm. With Oman targeting 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 this timely event will examine how businesses of all sizes can harness opportunities in one of Oman’s mosttransformative sectors. The expert panel brings together key industry leaders: Essam Al Sheibany, Vice President, Sustainability, ASYAD Group; Dr. Khalil Al Hanashi, Senior Advisor, Ministry of Energy & Minerals; and Musab Al Farsi, CEO, Nafath Renewable Energy. The evening’s discussions, moderated by Dr. Mohammed Al Mugheiry, Petroleum Engineering Commercialization Manager, PDO, will explore practical pathways for local companies to participate in Oman’s green energy future.

 
According to the International Energy Agency, global energy investment surpassed US$3 trillion for the first time in 2024, with US$2 trillion allocated to clean energy technologies and infrastructure. Investment in clean energy has accelerated since 2020 and spending on renewable power, grids and storage now exceeds total investments in oil, gas and coal. In Europe, SMEs in the renewable energy sector have reported an average annual revenue increase of 15% over the past five years, driven by strong market demand and supportive policies. SEZAD’s Integrated Energy Valley offers the infrastructure, strategic location and support services necessary for local as well as international businesses to tap into this expanding industry and become part of the global shift towards clean energy.

All four 2025 sessions have been developed to align with Oman Vision 2040, covering topics such as education-industry collaboration, circular economy practices and advancements in petrochemicals.
