MUSCAT : At a media briefing on the occasion of ‘Oman Environment Day’, H.E. Dr. Amri, explained that the projects focused on addressing pollution, biodiversity conservation, climate change, youth initiatives, environmental monitoring and control, and fostering investment in the environmental sector and reserves.
His Excellency emphasized that these efforts have significantly improved Oman’s international environmental standing. In 2024, the Sultanate achieved a remarkable leap in the global environmental performance index, securing the 54th position out of 180 countries.
The Chairman also underscored the vital role of community involvement in these projects, highlighting successful partnerships between the government, private sector, and local communities. Notable initiatives include the fight against invasive birds, the ambitious 10 million tree planting initiative, and the “Blue Carbon Project” aimed at planting 100 million mangrove trees.
Oman Environment Day is dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of nature. It serves as a platform to share the remarkable achievements in environmental conservation, reflecting the beauty and resilience of Oman’s diverse landscapes, from the serene plains and majestic mountains to the dynamic coastal ecosystems. This occasion provides an opportunity to review the ‘Environmental Harvest for the Year 2024’ and acknowledge the progress made in safeguarding Oman’s environment, H.E. Dr. Amri noted.
