KUWAIT: Oman started strong, displaying urgency and attacking flair, a marked improvement from their earlier struggles in the Asian Qualifiers. The visitors found gaps in Kuwait’s defense early on but couldn’t capitalize, while the hosts relied on a patient, rhythm-building approach.

The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute when Kuwait’s Yousef Al Sulaiman converted a stunning cross from Meshari Al Enezi, sending the crowd into raptures. However, Oman responded with grit and quick succession passes. Issam Al Sabhi leveled the score in the 42nd minute with a deft finish, assisted by Jameel Al Yahmadi.

The first half wasn’t without drama, as Oman faced injury scares, including a brutal strike on Arshad Al Alawi by his teammate, while tempers flared during rough tackles and heated exchanges.

Second half began as both teams showed a sense of urgency to break the tie. With potential substitutes lined up and new strategies drawn out by either of the coaches, the match was off to an exciting start.

First yellow cards got drawn out as Kuwait played it rough to edge out attacks against a nimble Oman. Kuwait’s keeper, Al Rashidi almost came very close in the 55th minute with nerves on the edge as Oman close in on Kuwait’s defence.

The match moved closer to being very tight with both having equal opportunities to break the tie.

Oman’s Al Busaidi takes a tough tackle by Youssef Majed which could have led to a potential card, but fizzled out courteously.

A brilliant cross almost turned into a winning opportunity for Oman in the 73rd minute, but none of the players could get to the cross from Amjad Al Harthi. Kuwait, with a quick counter from the corner, copied the same tactic, but they, too, couldn’t capitalise.

The night ended in the crucial final moments of 78th minute as Hasan Hamdan of Kuwait is escorted off the pitch further denting their pace as Oman looked to make the most of the situation.

The final moments led to both the teams trying their best to make the most of the final moments but their efforts fizzled out as the match ends in a draw.

Both teams have shown potential as the following games set the pace for an exciting tournament ahead.
