20th Joint International Ophthalmology Conference opens in Muscat with an eye for innovation

The 20th edition of the Joint International Conference on Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Research commenced today in Muscat Governorate.

MUSCAT : Organized by the Medical City for Military and Security Services’ Ophthalmology Centre in partnership with various national and international medical institutions, the three-day event aims to advance medical innovation and foster knowledge exchange.

The conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahroqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Adi bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Medical City for Military and Security Services.

“A number of doctors from different countries around the world are participating in the conference, and it includes many working papers, practical sessions and research related to artificial intelligence, which is one of the most important pillars of interest of the Medical City for Military and Security Apparatus, and it seeks to keep pace with global scientific development in the fields of medicine and its research,” said His Excellency Eng. Adi bin Hilal Al Maawali during the opening ceremony.

Colonel (Doctor) Rashid bin Mohammed Al Saidi highlighted the conference’s role as a platform for discussing cutting-edge diagnostics, including an innovative eye examination method that could detect early signs of chronic diseases like dementia, heart, and kidney conditions.

The event features 211 research papers, live surgical broadcasts, simulation labs, and workshops covering topics like retinal diseases, cataracts, corneal surgeries, and AI in eye care. It brings together over 100 international experts and 165 speakers to explore the latest in ophthalmology and surgery.

His Excellency Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahroqi also honoured distinguished doctors for their contributions to the field and toured an exhibition showcasing advanced medical equipment and pharmaceuticals from global participants.
