Oman’s CPA seizes 800kg of smokeless tobacco, arrests suspect

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), in coordination with the Royal Oman Police, has seized more than 800kg of smokeless chewing tobacco and arrested a suspect during a raid in the Wilayat of Liwa, North Al Batinah Governorate.

MUSCAT – The operation targeted a farm used for the illegal manufacture and trade of non-smoked tobacco products, following reports of suspicious activity. Authorities said judicial officers carried out surveillance and investigations before conducting the raid.
The seizure included more than 800kg of ‘ghalyoon’ wood, 80kg of ready-to-trade tobacco, 20kg of ground tobacco, 43kg of ‘shammah’ material, and 112kg of ‘noura’ material, along with three machines used for manufacturing and mixing.
The CPA confirmed that all confiscated items will be destroyed in accordance with legal procedures, while the suspect has been taken into custody.
Investigations are ongoing ahead of referring the case to the competent authorities for further legal action.
