Muscat – Al Kalbani, the first Omani to hold the prestigious position of Inspector General of Police and Customs in the Royal Oman Police, passed away after a lifetime of dedicated service to his country, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, devotion, and remarkable contributions to Oman’s military, police, and customs sectors.

A native of Maskan village in the Wilayat of Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate, Al-Kalbani dedicated his life to serving the nation. His illustrious career began in the 1960s when he joined the Omani Army and participated in the Dhofar War. Subsequently, he joined the newly formed police force and rose through the ranks to become the first Omani to hold the prestigious position of Inspector General of Police and Customs – a position he held for many years. Under his leadership, the police and customs forces became stronger and more modernized, contributing to Oman’s security and development.
In addition to his role as Inspector General, Al Kalbani later served as an advisor, continuing to offer his expertise and wisdom to the nation. He retired in 2008, having devoted over four decades to public service.

In 2015, Al Kalbani published his autobiography, ‘A Soldier from Maskan, Memory’s Nectar’, in which he reflected on his journey from childhood in the village of Maskan to his pivotal role in the Omani army and police force. The book, which chronicles his service and involvement in building modern Oman, was well-received by the public, leading to a second edition with additions and corrections, as well as a translation into English. The second edition was published in 2022, offering further insights into his personal and professional life, especially his involvement in the development of the police force.
Throughout his career, Lieutenant General Al Kalbani received numerous awards and honours in recognition of his service, including the Sultan Qaboos Medal.
