MUSCAT : The announcement was made by H E Dr Jokha bint Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA), during a press conference on Tuesday, where she outlined the key objectives of the new evaluation system.

The system will assess the performance of schools based on a set of standards and indicators, with particular focus on identifying schools with low ratings. These schools will be informed of their results and will be given targeted support and interventions to help improve their performance.

Dr. Shukaili stated that all rulings issued against schools will be announced in official newspapers and social media to demonstrate transparency.

She further emphasized that the evaluation system is designed to align with the objectives of Royal Decree No. 9/2021, which established OAAAQA with the mandate to ensure the quality of education in Oman, both in schools and higher education institutions.

The system, which has undergone extensive testing and review, is expected to bring a transformative shift in how schools operate. Dr. Al Shukaili highlighted that the evaluation process will include on-site visits by expert reviewers who will assess each school’s strengths and areas for improvement. Detailed reports will be generated to provide evidence-based insights and guide schools in developing strategic improvement plans.

Dr. Thuraya bint Saif Al Hosniyah, Director General of the Centre for School Education Quality Assurance, emphasized that the new system is designed to be a catalyst for continuous improvement in Oman’s schools. The evaluations will also help foster partnerships with the Ministry of Education and other key educational entities to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to improving education across the country.

The new evaluation system is part of a broader strategy to modernize and enhance the efficiency of Oman’s educational system, which will have a significant impact on both the quality of teaching and learning, as well as on the development of students’ skills to meet the demands of the evolving labour market.
