MUSCAT : The latest figures, released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), reflect continued growth in the country’s natural gas sector, driven by both local production and imports.
According to the statistics, industrial projects remain the dominant consumer of natural gas, accounting for 61.4 percent of total gas usage in Oman. Industrial demand reached 25,922,700,000 cubic meters by the end of September 2024, highlighting the sector’s critical role in the country’s economic activity.
The report also details gas usage across various sectors: oil fields consumed 8.88 billion cubic meters of natural gas; power generation stations used 7.23 billion cubic meters; and gas usage in industrial areas totaled 187.8 million cubic meters.
In terms of production, non-associated natural gas (gas produced independently of oil extraction) accounted for the bulk of the supply, reaching 33.63 billion cubic meters by September 2024. Meanwhile, associated gas (gas produced alongside oil extraction) contributed 8.6 billion cubic meters.
