MUSCAT : A wave of entrepreneurial university graduates in Sama’il has set a remarkable example by launching small and medium-sized businesses aligned with their academic expertise. From private dental clinics to pharmacies and specialized tech repair shops, these projects aim to open new avenues in the labour market while providing vital services to the local community.
Dr. Hajar bint Abdullah Al Rawahi, an Oman College of Dentistry alumna, has brought her academic training to life with the opening of a private dental clinic in 2020. “The idea of opening a “private dental clinic” project came from the starting point of applying what we studied during our university years in the field of dentistry, after qualifying and training under the management and supervision of doctors specializing in this field, in addition to creating job opportunities for my fellow graduates in the same field, as the clinic was actually opened in 2020 AD, and I attracted a number of Omanis to work in the clinic, including doctors and doctors’ assistants in addition to the administrative staff. The clinic provides a number of services related to dentistry, such as: therapeutic fillings, nerve fillings, and various dental treatments, including cosmetic ones such as teeth whitening and polishing,” Dr. Hajar explained.
Starting with two treatment rooms, Dr Hajar has her sights set on expanding the clinic and adding specialities like orthodontics and oral surgery. Her clinic features state-of-the-art equipment, such as the STI device, a needle-free alternative for patient comfort, and the Rotary System for efficient nerve treatments, saving time and effort for both patients and practitioners.

In a similar venture, pharmacist Khadija bint Ali Al Siyabi, a graduate of the Higher Colleges of Technology, opened a community pharmacy in Sama’il. “I opened my own project, which is a “pharmacy” in the Wilayat of Samayil, after working in a number of private hospitals, and gaining the necessary experience in addition to my academic studies in the field of pharmacy and knowing everything that society needs in terms of various medicines, in addition to other cosmetic and health products,” she said. Her pharmacy offers essential medications, cosmetic products, and free health services like blood pressure checks and medication guidance, as well as job and training opportunities for new pharmacy graduates.
Other graduates have ventured into fields like programming, computer repair, and mobile maintenance, aligning their businesses with their educational backgrounds to meet local needs and expand Sama’il’s job market.
