MUSCAT : The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Fisheries at the Ministry, and Abdullah bin Saeed Al Busaidi, Executive Director of Muscat Yachts Company, marking a significant milestone in Oman’s agricultural and fisheries development.
Set to be established in the Wilayat of Al Musannah in the South Al Batinah Governorate, the project will utilize modern water recycling technology, known for its ability to operate efficiently with minimal water usage. This technology reduces the need for chemicals and helps control environmental factors, making it a sustainable solution that can adapt to the challenges of climate change. The facility is expected to produce an impressive 8 tons of codfish annually, offering a fresh approach to fish farming in Oman.
The initiative aims to introduce both a new farming technology and a new species of marine fish in saltwater farms. By reducing the challenges faced by existing saltwater farms, particularly salinity issues, the project ensures the longevity and viability of these farms. The technology will also help spread knowledge about the factors affecting marine fish growth in salty environments, supporting the development of small and medium-scale projects.
