MUSCAT : His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, emphasized that the Governor’s Office works diligently to balance community needs with sustainable development priorities. The “project bank,” a curated record of proposed initiatives, ensures that selected projects are primed for execution under favorable conditions. This year, landmark undertakings have been announced, including the innovative Sustainable Tayeb City in Liwa, Suwaiq Park, the Liwa Vegetable and Fruit Market, and the Majis Waterfront, which blend commercial and recreational benefits for local communities.
Among these, the governorate’s “Al Durra” project in Al Khabourah stands out, having won the prestigious 2024 Best Development Project Award. This ambitious venture aims to transform Al Khabourah into a heritage-rich tourist hub, featuring markets, a visitor center, traditional training sites, and ample job creation, with over 1,100 employment opportunities expected.











His Excellency also highlighted ongoing large-scale industrial investments at Sohar Port and Free Zone, which have surpassed RO 11.5 billion. Notable projects include the pioneering Marsa LNG supply project, reliant on solar power, and the United Solar Polysilicon Factory, forecasted to produce 100,000 tons annually.

Transport infrastructure has been a central focus, with plans for the Oman-Emirati Railway Project linking Sohar to Abu Dhabi. The new Sohar Future City, spanning 7.12 million square meters, will soon offer mixed-use housing and commercial spaces, reinforcing Sohar’s role as a major commercial center.
Regarding the transportation, communications and information technology sector in North Al Batinah Governorate, His Excellency explained that the governorate has witnessed important developments, strengthened the infrastructure and better connected the various regions.
The Shinas link dualization project, which connects the Al Batinah main road to the expressway, is nearing completion, with a completion rate of 99.9 percent. The road has been opened to traffic, while the Khaboura link dualization project, which connects the expressway, has reached 95.29 percent. Part of it has been temporarily opened, while work continues on the rest of the project. In addition, work continues on the Liwa link dualization project to improve the connection between the Al Batinah road and the expressway.
Furthering tourism, the governorate has hosted festivals that increased tourism growth by 7.4% in 2023. Efforts to preserve heritage sites also continue, with recent archaeological discoveries in the Sohar Free Zone and collaborative excavations with international universities at Sohar Fort and Wadi Al-Zuhaymi.
Within the framework of the quality of education in the governorate, the Directorate General of Education worked in accordance with the vision of the Ministry of Education, which stipulates “high-quality education integrated with technology, multi-track, enhances innovation and entrepreneurship, and builds skills,” which is closely aligned with the priorities of the “Oman 2040” vision.
The Directorate also plays prominent roles in the fields of innovation, scientific Olympiad, and student activities. The Directorate is keen to support and motivate students to achieve excellence at the local, regional, and international levels. In the fields of special education and digital transformation, it seeks to achieve inclusiveness in education and adopt modern technologies. There is also cooperation with various community institutions to enhance community partnership and improve the quality of services provided.
His Excellency said that higher education institutions play a major role in qualifying human competencies and encouraging scientific research, innovation, entrepreneurship and community service. They also support Omani higher education institutions to advance them on the global quality ladder by twinning them with prestigious international universities, in addition to expanding the facilitation of procedures and converting them into electronic services.
The academic sector is also being linked to the industrial sector through the “Ejaad” digital platform, which contributes to achieving the integration of “Oman Vision 2040” with the government and private sectors, in a way that supports the development of human capital and provides learning opportunities for young people.
