MUSCAT : According to Article 33 of the amended Regulations of the Consumer Protection Law, these entities must adhere to specific requirements when entering into remote contracts.
The regulations stipulate that any provider, advertiser, or agent based in Oman, or with a representative in the country, must comply with the following:
- Obtain approval from the concerned authority.
- Display products accurately in electronic formats.
- Specify the location, date, and method of delivery for items.
- Establish a clear exchange and return policy that aligns with legal provisions.
These e-commerce regulations, issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, aim to regulate the sector while protecting consumer rights. Key objectives include:
- Fostering the development of e-commerce in Oman while upholding consumer rights.
- Creating a safe and transparent e-commerce environment.
- Granting the Consumer Protection Authority access to account holders and websites.
- Implementing necessary measures to protect the rights of consumers and address complaints.
- Developing a comprehensive database of e-commerce practitioners in Oman, including individuals and companies.
- Promoting trust between consumers and local e-commerce stores.
- Attracting quality investments to enhance the e-commerce sector’s growth.
