Muscat: One of the standout attractions in Al Wusta Governorate is the Duqm Special Economic Zone, which has drawn significant interest from investors. Offering incentives and facilities, the zone has bolstered the region’s appeal for industrial and commercial activities.
Abdoun bin Mohammed Al-Harsosi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, highlighted a remarkable 116% increase in industrial license applications in the first half of 2024, with applications soaring to 534 compared to 247 in the same period last year. Foreign investment also grew, with 53 foreign companies registering a total capital of RO 8.056 million, a slight increase from 52 companies in 2023.
By mid-2024, the total number of foreign investment records in Al Wusta reached 742, with a combined capital of RO 2.779 billion. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion continues to work closely with local authorities to boost the governorate’s economic sector.

Additionally, Al Wusta saw 230 new commercial records in 2024, bringing the total to 7,342. However, certificates of origin fell slightly to 557, down from 600 in the same period last year.
