DUBAI: UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed pardoned Bangladeshi nationals involved in recent riots in the country, state-owned WAM reported on Tuesday.
Sheikh Mohamed has ordered authorities to drop the sentences of those convicted and arrange for their deportation from the country.
On July 22, the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal sentenced three Bangladeshi to life imprisonment and handed 10-year prison sentences to 53 others.

According to reports the defendants organised large-scale marches in several streets of the UAE in protest against decisions made by the Bangladeshi government.
Meanwhile, Chancellor Dr Hamad Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney-General called on all residents of the UAE to respect the country’s laws.
“The state provides lawful means for expressing views, ensuring this right does not turn into actions that could harm the interests of the nation and its people,” Al Shamsi stated.
