Al Buraimi Governorate signs agreements over RO 500,000 to preserve vital water resources

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has signed 24 agreements worth over RO 500,000 to maintain aflaj in Al Buraimi and Mahdha.

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, through its General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in Al Buraimi Governorate, has signed 24 crucial agreements aimed at preserving the aflaj systems in the Wilayats of Al Buraimi and Mahdha. The total value of these agreements exceeds RO 500,000.

Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Marshoudi, Director General of the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in Al Buraimi Governorate, highlighted that this initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to sustain natural water resources and maintain the aflaj, which has been affected by recent climatic conditions.

The maintenance work will cover 15 aflaj in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, including notable ones such as Abu Baqara Falaj (second and third stages), Al Buraimi Falaj, Al Qabil, Al Qatah in the Wasit and Al Rabi regions, Wasit Falaj, Al Dhahia, Katna, Hawil Al Majid, Mahnoon, Al Hayoul, Sham, and Al Rabi.

In the Wilayat of Mahdha, nine aflaj will be maintained, including Mahdha Falaj (first and second stages), Al-Fawq, Al-Khatwa, Al-Hazm, Al-Ghaylah, Sharm, Al-Tawi, Al-Hajr, and Al-Dhaher (Sa’ed Muhaym), as well as Reem Falaj.

The agreements were signed by Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Marshoudi and representatives of the companies responsible for the projects. The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Kalbani, Wali of Al Buraimi.
