MALAWI : President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the tragic news on Tuesday after the wreckage was found in the northern mountains.
The military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima went missing Monday morning during a 45-minute flight from the capital, Lilongwe, to Mzuzu. The search operation, which involved hundreds of soldiers, police officers, and forest rangers, ended when the wreckage was located in a remote, mountainous area after more than a day.
There were no survivors among the ten people on board, including former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri. The crash site was discovered in a densely forested region, complicating the search efforts. President Chakwera made the announcement in a live address on state television, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
