Muscat – According to the analysis, the peak effect of the weather condition is expected to commence at 10 am on Thursday, May 2.
The forecast indicates heavy thunderstorms accompanied by active downward winds and the fall of hailstones all through Thursday in the governorates of Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, North Al Sharqiyah, and Dhofar.
The amount of rainfall is expected to range from 20-80 mm leading to the flow of reefs and valleys, and scattered and varying rainfall. There are chances of active downward winds, with speeds ranging between 15 – 40 knots (28 – 90 km/h), and sea wave ranging between 2-3 metres on the coast of Musandam Governorate and the Sea of Oman.
Nasser bin Said Al Ismaili, Acting Director of the Weather Forecast Department and Early Warning System at the Civil Aviation Authority, stated that while there will be an impact on the rest of the northern governorates, it will be of a lesser degree. The gradual impact is set to commence on Wednesday evening and continue until tomorrow morning.
The forecast also indicates that the chances of rain continuing until Friday, particularly in the mountainous areas of South Al Sharqiyah and North governorates, including the eastern, central, and entire Hajar Mountains, and Dhofar Governorate.
Some effects and clouds have already begun to flow over Dhofar Governorate, and it may witness some scattered thunderstorms in the evening, leading to flow of valleys and reefs.
The Civil Aviation Authority calls on everyone to exercise caution during thunderstorms, not to cross valleys, avoid low places, and not to go to the sea during the warning period.
