Muscat – In an alert issued online, the ROP stated that its Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations had monitored the circulation of many fake advertisements on social media, especially those pertaining to the sale of vehicles.
These fraudulent advertisements, promising attractive deals on vehicles, are intended to tempt individuals to disclose their personal and banking information. Such scams often lead to unauthorized access to victims’ bank accounts and subsequent theft of funds.
In response to this growing threat, the Royal Oman Police urges all citizens and residents to exercise caution and refrain from divulging any personal or banking information on untrusted platforms. Vigilance is crucial in safeguarding against financial scams and identity theft.
One such fraudulent advertisement, claiming to promote a car and truck auction in Muscat, has circulated on social media platforms. The ad promises exclusive offers on vehicles for a limited time period and directs individuals to register on an unofficial website, potentially exposing them to financial risks.
The Royal Oman Police advises the public to verify the authenticity of any advertisement before responding or providing personal information. Official announcements and transactions should be conducted through trusted channels and recognized platforms to mitigate the risk of falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
