Muscat – Addressing the council, H.E. Dr. Harrasi emphasized the significant role of the Omani media in the nation’s modern renaissance, describing it as embodying a “civilized humanitarian message.” He highlighted the media’s responsibility in expressing the characteristics of the Omani people objectively and contributing to cultural openness while upholding freedom of opinion within legal boundaries.

H.E. Dr. Harrasi underscored the ministry’s commitment to drawing up plans aligned with Omani values, the Royal Directive, and Oman Vision 2040. He emphasized the media’s transparency and its recent handling of regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Regarding the media’s foundations, H.E. Dr. Harrasi emphasized their derivation from Islamic principles, the state’s legal framework, and the vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik. He reiterated the importance of freedom of expression within the bounds of the law, as outlined in the Basic Law of the State.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the role of government’s communication center in studying public opinion and social media discourse, having dealt with 800 cases in the past year.

He also reiterated the pivotal role of the Omani media in nation-building and emphasized its responsibility in disseminating knowledge, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting freedom of expression while adhering to legal constraints.
