Muscat – The ruling stemmed from a complaint received by the Directorate General of Consumer Protection Authority in Sohar. The complaint detailed an agreement between the consumer and the workshop to replace the vehicle’s engine for RO 800, with a promised delivery within two weeks.
However, the workshop failed to adhere to the agreed timeline, repeatedly postponing the delivery date.
The Consumer Protection Law mandates that service providers must deliver services in a timely manner and guarantee the quality of their work. Failure to do so requires compensation for any deficiency or redoing the service properly.
With no amicable solution in sight, the case was referred to judicial authorities and the court found the workshop and its representative guilty of misdemeanor for inadequate service provision. The representative was sentenced to one month imprisonment and fined RO 700 Omani Riyals. Additionally, they were ordered to compensate the plaintiff with RO 500 Omani Riyals and cover the fees and expenses related to the case.
