MUSCAT : This decision aims to keep regulations up-to-date, ensuring that specifications for vehicles, motorcycles, and tyres align with the latest safety, quality, and environmental standards. By adhering to these standards, consumers are safeguarded against risks, while manufacturers are held to specific performance and sustainability criteria, along with environmental protection measures.
Among the new requirements is the inclusion of a fuel consumption data label sticker on all new vehicles. This sticker serves as a tool for consumers to compare the fuel efficiency of different cars, aiding them in selecting vehicles that suit their needs in terms of fuel consumption.
Emphasizing the significance of standard specifications, the Ministry highlighted their role in elevating local production to global standards, enhancing competitiveness, and fostering a mutual understanding among stakeholders regarding consumer safety, environmental protection, waste reduction, and industrial economics. Furthermore, adherence to these specifications supports national industries and promotes export development, ultimately raising the overall quality standards.
Standard specifications also help provide a frame of reference and a common language between manufacturers and traders, facilitate trade exchange and technology transfer, and enable them to develop their products and services, thereby giving them the ability to increasingly compete in many markets around the world.
