MUSCAT : The court found the establishment guilty of failure to perform services as agreed upon, resulting in financial fines exceeding RO 12,000, cessation of activity, and a six-month closure of its store.
The case stemmed from complaints received by the Consumer Protection Authority in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate from multiple consumers. These complaints alleged that the establishment, operating in the field of detailing and installing doors and windows, failed to fulfill agreed-upon services within the stipulated timeframe. Consequently, the consumers reported the issue to the authorities, initiating an investigation by the public prosecution and subsequent referral to the court.
The court ruled in favor of the consumers, and imposed financial fines totaling RO 550, along with criminal expenses. Additionally, the court ordered the closure of the store for six months and to pay the plaintiffs a substantial sum of RO 12,485.
The Consumer Protection Authority has emphasized the importance of adherence to consumer protection laws and regulations by all merchants and suppliers. It calls for transparency, credibility, and honesty in advertising and service provision. Consumers are urged to ensure written and documented contracts to safeguard their rights when entering into agreements with businesses.
