Signs are all around you. They are subtle messages that are waiting to be interpreted as divine interventions.

It could be a colourful feather floating in your periphery, an odd-shaped stone lying on your path, the unusual chirp of a bird in the morning hours, the static cloud fleetingly dipping its edge to acknowledge you.

It could even be a casual dress in your modest cupboard that catches your eye on a regular or a challenging day.

A keen eye will find the sign even in a drab room, an insignificant pathway, or amidst everyday routines. It may happen when you least expect it or when you have honed all your thoughts towards that one sign.

Either way, that sign is meant only for you.

What you perceive as a sign, may be an everyday occurrence to someone else. It’s the interpretation of that sign that leads to unexpected blessings.

For what logic could be there in identifying a particular dress as a sign of divine intervention?

Here I will digress to recount the story of a friend who found validation for her anxiety-riddled exam mood with a particular top and a skirt.

A long time ago, years before the internet created a paradigm shift in our life and living, this friend realized her sign was sitting plum in the cupboard filled with her (and her siblings) clothes. Her fingers grazed through the unironed folded clothes, lingering thoughtlessly along the pile, before idly picking the one that was destined to be her sign for an easy exam.

That combination acted as a harbinger of good tidings and she sailed through the first paper. On an impulse, she rewore the same combination to the next exam and the sign worked like a magic. Needless to say, all the exams saw her in the same washed and pressed outfit.  

Was it a coincidence?

I would like to place my bets on the sign – the strong unquantifiable belief that things will work right if the sign has manifested itself.  I say this despite knowing that a sign – any sign – is purely my perception of it.
