MUSCAT : The Oman Meteorology Department has issued a weather alert indicating the onset of heavy thundershowers commencing at 8:00 AM tomorrow and persisting until 11:00 PM. The affected areas initially include the Governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Dhahira, and Al Buraimi, with the adverse weather conditions projected to gradually extend towards South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhylia, North Al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya governorates by the afternoon.
Precipitation levels ranging from 20 mm to 50 mm are anticipated, potentially leading to flash floods, particularly in low-lying areas and Wadis. In light of the forecasted weather, the Civil Aviation Authority has issued advisories urging caution during thundershower rains, advising against crossing Wadis and navigating low-lying areas, and recommending refraining from sailing during the alert period.
Key alerts include the expectation of heavy thundershowers accompanied by hail, with precipitation ranging between 20 to 50 mm, posing a risk of flash floods. Additionally, strong downdraft active winds with speeds ranging from 15 to 35 knots (28-64 km/h) are forecasted, along with a potential rise in sea state along the Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts, reaching up to 23.5 meters. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers is also anticipated.
