MUSCAT : Dr Ahmed bin Hamood Al-Habsi, Consultant Neurointerventional Radiologist at Khoula Hospital, highlighted the critical nature of the operation conducted at Sohar Hospital due to the comprehensive availability of pediatric, internal medicine, and cardiac anaesthesia, neurology, and neurosurgery teams in one centralized location.
The operation, performed under local anaesthesia due to the patient’s cardiac and respiratory complications, lasted approximately an hour. The medical team implanted a stent inside the dilated artery, a procedure necessitated by a previous cerebral haemorrhage treated at Khawla Hospital five years ago.
Dr Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Director General of the Directorate General of Khoula Hospital, emphasized the significance of this collaborative healthcare approach, citing it as an exemplar of decentralized medical services aligned with the Ministry of Health’s strategy.
Notably, Sohar Hospital pioneered the launch of cerebral angioplasty catheterization services for strokes, marking a milestone as the first hospital outside Muscat Governorate to offer this specialized service.
