MUSCAT : As the fifty-third National Day approaches, citizens are gearing up for the most significant day in the calendar of the country by adorning their homes with images of the esteemed Sultan. However, amid the global challenges, particularly the ongoing crisis in Palestine, Oman stands in solidarity with the country and its people. In a poignant move, all official celebrations have been canceled, echoing the nation’s empathy for the plight of the people in the Gaza Strip.

Despite the somber note, the markets are abuzz with activity as Omanis express their patriotism. Posters, scarves, and children’s clothes adorned with images of His Majesty and the national flag fly off the shelves. These symbolic gestures mirror the deep-seated love and pride the people of Oman feel for their homeland, illuminating the joy they hold for this extraordinary National Day experience.

Their exuberance is a testament to the optimism surrounding a promising new chapter for the Sultanate of Oman, guided by the esteemed leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This occasion marks a collective anticipation for a more radiant tomorrow and a rejuvenated future.

Reflecting on the significance of the National Day, Engineer Mohammed Al Mazrouei emphasizes, “National Day is a momentous occasion for Omanis, a time to express our patriotic fervor through joyful celebrations. It stands as a testament to the unity and resilience of our nation.”

Teacher Zuwaina Al-Abri echoes this sentiment, stating, “Oman, under the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, witnessed remarkable development and service achievements, covering all areas of life; it met the needs of the citizens and residents. Today, under the leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman continues to progress toward becoming a developed nation. His Majesty’s strategic initiatives, including the completion of key projects like the Port of Duqm, as well as oil refineries and petrochemical factories in Sohar and Salalah, showcase his commitment to advancing Oman’s economic, administrative, and social sectors.”

Even in the face of global adversities such as the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuating oil prices, His Majesty has steered Oman with resilience, launching transformative projects and reinforcing the nation’s economic foundation, she adds.

Aya Al Harrasi, a student from Sultan Qaboos University, expresses the importance of the day as follows: “While the official celebrations may be limited to the military parade and the raising of Oman’s flag, our hearts resonate with the significance of the 53rd National Day. In student dormitories, we’ll celebrate by reciting poetry and organizing cultural competitions to honor the rich history of the Sultanate.”

As Oman marches forward into its fifty-fourth year, the celebrations may be subdued, but the spirit of unity, pride, and resilience shines brightly, embodying the essence of the Omani National Day.

For Oman, this National Day is not merely a milestone but a testament to its enduring spirit and resilience. It serves as a reminder of the nation’s commitment to progress, peace, and prosperity. Amid the jubilation, there is a collective pause to honor the sacrifices of the past, recognizing the foundations laid for a flourishing future.

The theme of unity is palpable, as Omanis reflect on their shared heritage and envision a tomorrow built on the principles of cooperation and harmony.

Indeed, Oman stands tall on this National Day; it is a day to cherish the present, honour the past, and look forward to the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.

Happy National Day!
