MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology issued a notice activating some provisions of the executive regulations related to practicing taxi activity.
The publication from the ministry comes in accordance with the Land Transport Law issued by Royal Decree No. 10/2016 and its executive regulations.
The Ministry clarified a set of requirements for practicing the taxi activity, which are as follows:

- A valid light driving licence that is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance.
- The monthly salary of the taxi driver should not exceed OMR 600 if he is an employee or worker in the private sector.
- The age of the taxi driver should not be less than 21 years and not more than 60 years old, and may be extended based on a medical report from accredited health institutions indicating his ability to drive a taxi.
The Ministry also added these requirements for taxi owners:
- The vehicle that is used for the purpose of taxi related activities shall not exceed seven years from the date of the year of manufacture to practice the activity in locations (airports, ports, and hotels).
- The period of use of the taxi vehicle in the activity shall not exceed 10 years from the date of the year of manufacture to practice the activity in locations (public places and commercial centers).
The Ministry indicated that the last date for exceptions is September 1, 2024, and all beneficiaries of taxi activity must correct their status.
