MUSCAT: As part of attracting investments, the government will soon introduce a legislative system that will unify the laws for special economic zones and free zones in the Sultanate, a top Omani official has confirmed.

Speaking exclusively to The Arabian Stories, Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) said the draft law has been completed. “Once the law is introduced it will unify the legislative regulations of all the economic zones and free zones into one. Our aim is to attract investment globally and regionally,” Dheeb said.

The authorities will also set the regulatory framework for transferring the affiliation of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) to OPAZ.

Meanwhile, OPAZ revealed that the volume of investment in all its affiliated zones amounted to OMR 15.2 billion by the end of 2022, with a growth rate of 6%, while the total area of the zones exceeded 2200 square kilometres.
