MUSCAT– The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with an archaeological mission from the Institute of Archeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, implemented the first phase of the second season of survey and excavation work at an archaeological site in the Nafun area in the Wilayat of Duqm in Al Wustaa Governorate.
During the project, a unique mass grave dating back to the Neolithic era, and reused around the end of the first millennium BC, was excavated which led to many archaeological findings including pottery, copper holdings, and shells in which cosmetics were placed. It is worth noting that approximately 155 archaeological witnesses were found in the Nefoun region, including rock inscriptions, tombs, and three-stone tombstones, which are groups of stones, each group comprising three erect stones in a hierarchical shape.
