WASHINGTON- According to the latest announcement from Facebook, the social media platform will be enabling more privacy settings by default for anyone signing on to the platform under the age of 16. These additional privacy settings will restrict details on an account so that only a teen’s friends can view the posts they’re tagged in, their friends’ list, and the pages, people, and lists they follow.

As for teenagers who were already on the platform prior to the announcement, Facebook will display a prompt encouraging them to use these settings, along with an option that turns the settings on with a single tap. 

Additionally, Facebook is making an effort to keep teens on the platform from predatory adults and is currently exploring a method to stop teenagers from messaging adults who have recently been blocked or reported by a teenager. Facebook will also stop suggesting such adults to teens in their “People You May Know” section.
