SALALAH: France’s Etienne Tillon emerged champion of the Ironman 70.3 held at Hawana Resort in Salalah on Friday evening. Bahrain’s Mohammed Issa came in second, and Britain’s David Hynes came in third positions, respectively.
For Gulf Cup, Issa bagged first place, Abdullah Allgetti of the United Arab Emirates ranked second and Fahd Al-Thuwaini of Kuwait completed the podium.
Germany’s Lea Lienshoeft was crowned champion in the women’s category followed by Britain’s Daisy Baker and Melissa Abbey from South Africa.

The Ironman 70.3 Salalah Championship was held with the support of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Dhofar Municipality and organized by Triathlon Middle East began on Wednesday and completed on Friday.
Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, presented the honours to the winners in the presence of a number of officials from the public and private sectors.
At least 700 competitors representing 63 countries including the Sultanate participated in the race, during which they competed in the 113-km race (including swimming 1.9 km. cycling 90 km and cross country race 12.1km).
The championship included the kid’s race (IronKids), the girls’ race (IronGirls). The Salalah round is also qualifier for the IronMan 70.3 World Championship, which will be hosted by Lahti in Finland during August 2023.
The closing ceremony included the presentation of traditional Omani arts, a visual presentation of the championship, and honoring the supporting bodies and companies.
