MUSCAT: Oman has become the second country in the GCC to lift all Covid restrictions and welcome life as we knew it before corona.

In a major decision issued by the country’s Supreme Committee, all precautionary measures have been lifted at all public places and business outlets. That meant, no more mandatory face masks or vaccination certificate at places including shopping malls.

However, the committee urged individuals—“particularly the old-aged, people suffering from chronic diseases or immunodeficiency—are urged to stick to wearing the face mask at closed areas.”

The successful vaccine programme proved a “super-weapon”, said a Supreme Committee member speaking to The Arabian Stories. “It has given us a solid defence against infection that continues,” he noted. More than 4,200 people died in the last two years in the country, while 389,473 people were tested positive. “The government wants to bring life back to how it was before corona and this is the best decision,” he added.

Following are the decisions issued by the Supreme Committee:

First: All precautionary measures against Covid-19 in all public places and business outlets are deemed terminated.

Second: Members of the society are advised to espouse a “culture of health and protection” in all respects.

Third: In the event someone experiences fever or any morbid respiratory symptoms, he/she is advised to stay at home, keep social distancing with others and wear a face mask when mingling with people.

Fourth: All individuals—particularly the old-aged, people suffering from chronic diseases or immunodeficiency—are urged to stick to wearing the face mask at closed areas.

Fifth: Citizens and residents are highly advised to take the booster dose of Covid-19.

The Supreme Committee thanked citizens and residents for their adherence to procedures and precautionary measures. It also lauded the ‘constructive role’ of government institutions and private establishments whose cooperation, the committee said, contributed to curbing the spread of the virus.
