MUSCAT: Omani citizens have taken to Twitter after tragic accidents taking place in Oman which took the lives of young students of the country.
It wasn’t even a week ago that a bus transporting female students in Saham met with an accident which resulted in the loss of three students.
Oman citizen Mustafa Shagri said on Twitter, “With the recurrence of bus accidents, it has become imperative for the concerned authorities to intervene and impose strict controls on the drivers of these buses. The most important of which is the age of the driver to be at least 40 years old with obtaining A permit to practice this profession.”

Citizens have poured over Twitter with their opinions and have offered solutions, requesting authorities to take action and implement stricter controls.
Another Omani citizen Salah Al Balushi commented, “Solutions are readily available. The IVMS (In vehicles monitoring system) system sends a signal to the control centre to exceed the specified speed, and this requires the establishment of a public company concerned with monitoring the quality of driving and road safety systems with transport companies so that any vehicle they have is registered to engage in public transport activity.”
Taking required actions and implementing solution has become the need of the day. Omani citizens have voiced their concerns over the safety of students.
“Young female students are becoming victims of road accidents. How long do we remain motionless to save them?! We are satisfied with publishing the news and offering condolences. From time to time we hear about students whose lives have been lost as a result of neglect. An open investigation is needed into these incidents and the key is to find solutions to avoid such disasters, or else innocent lives will continue to be lost,” said Rashed Al Saidi, Omani citizen.
