MUSCAT: The new labour law is under discussion with the Council of Ministers and will be implemented this year, the Minister of Labour said.

“The new labour law has been submitted to the Council of Ministers for review. It goes through various stages for discussion before being implemented,” said His Excellency Professor Mahad Bin Said Bin Ali Baawain.

Regarding the termination cases of Omani employees in private sector, the Minister had this to say: “We evaluate cases of termination of services for Omanis working in the private sector and try to make a settlement between them to reach a satisfactory solution that protects the Omani employee from termination of service or a reduction in wages.”

According to the minister, there are more than 3,000 professions in the labour market. “The number of vacancies are between 180,000 and 250,000 across sectors,” he added.
