MUSCAT: Oman’s football legend Ali Al Habsi presented the FIFA Arab Cup trophy on the pitch during the pre-match ceremony held in Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.
The former international goalkeeper was given the honour to accompany the prestigious trophy along with French legend Marcel Desailly in front of a 60,000 audience.
This was the first pan-Arab tournament to be held under the FIFA umbrella and took place exactly a year before Qatar will host the region’s first FIFA World Cup. “The most exciting is a badge of honour from the brothers in the organising committee and it is a gesture of appreciation to me and my country from the International Football Association (FIFA) in this majestic Arab sports stadium,” Al Habsi said on Twitter.
